Kiwanis Club Wins Achievement Award
Tribute To Outstanding Community Service

Sacramento, CA, April 2005 — The Northern California and Nevada Kiwanis Clubs were awarded the Service Club And Association Achievement Award for their ongoing support of the Kiwanis Family House, during the Community Services Planning Council of Sacramento’s annual People Helping People Awards.

The council recognizes that Kiwanians consistently donate their resources, time and talent to local organizations and activities and wanted to pay tribute to those who serve as role models of outstanding commitment to community service.

For over 20 years, the Kiwanis Family House, a non-profit group, assists families whose children are being treated for a serious illness or injury at UC Davis Health System in Sacramento by providing affordable temporary housing near the hospital. Guests at the Family House have immediate access to their child’s bedside, free shuttle service to the hospital, and a staff of caring volunteers available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A network of many volunteers operates the Family House twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

“The People Helping People Awards is one of Sacramento's premiere community service events;” said Jan Pollock, Manager, UCDHS Volunteer Services. “The Kiwanians who support this effort by volunteering their time and resources at the UC Davis Health System were honored for their exemplary work in operating the Kiwanis Family House. Giving is just a part of the Kiwanis culture and they are such a vital part of the Sacramento Community.”
